We supply and install granite, quartz, marble and ceramic surfaces for kitchens, bathrooms, commercial spaces and bespoke commissions across Newcastle, North Tyneside and the wider North East.
We don't subcontract. The same team that templates your kitchen visits your property, fabricates your surfaces in our own workshop, and fits them — start to finish. That's not a marketing line; it's how we've worked since 2004 and it's the reason our quality is consistent.
We're a family business in the straightforward sense: Paul founded the company, Conor joined it, and the values that built the reputation — craft, honesty, care for the detail — haven't changed.
Traditional Masonry didn't start as a business plan. It started with a craftsman who knew his trade, knew his region, and could see that the North East deserved better than what was on offer.
Paul served his apprenticeship with a local stonemasonry company before gaining experience working across Europe and Australia. On returning to the North East, he headed an architectural masonry business — developing contacts throughout the granite and marble sector — before founding Traditional Masonry in 2004.
The goal was clear: to offer the very best in stone work surfaces and interiors to homeowners and businesses across the region. The workshop, the showroom, the standards, and the reputation have all grown from that starting point.
In 2018, Paul was joined in the business by his son Conor, who had completed a mechanical engineering degree before making the move. The combination of Paul's decades of hands-on stonemasonry experience and Conor's engineering background has strengthened the technical capability of the workshop — particularly in CNC fabrication and digital templating.
The company has continued to grow in both output and reputation, without losing the founding ethos. We are constantly evolving, but our values remain the same: passion for quality and creativity in everything we do, evident at every stage of production.
With over 40 years of combined experience working with natural stone, we have the skills to tackle everything from a simple bathroom shelf to stone worktops for multi-unit developments supplied to national house builders. Our driving force is to be at the forefront of the stone interiors industry — embracing both old and new.
That means combining the traditional craft of the stonemason with the very latest CNC technology — precision cutting, digital templating and quality-controlled fabrication — to produce surfaces that hold up under genuine scrutiny.

The team you meet in the showroom is the team that templates, fabricates and installs your surfaces. There are no subcontractors involved at any stage, which means consistent standards and a single point of contact for your entire project.
We use specialist digital measuring and laser templating equipment, state-of-the-art CNC saws and hand finishing by our stonemasons. Every worktop goes through a stringent quality control check before leaving the workshop. Accurate, repeatable, right first time.
We'll tell you which material suits your brief, your budget and your lifestyle — not the one with the highest margin. If marble isn't right for your kitchen, we'll say so. Twenty years of experience means we've seen every combination of requirements and can give you straightforward guidance without the sales pressure.
Our showroom at Unit 6, West Chirton Trading Estate, North Shields holds full-size slab samples of all four materials in every popular colour and finish — something you simply can't judge from a photograph or a small tile sample. Natural stone in particular changes completely when you see it at scale, in natural light.
