The Modern Alternative

Engineered to outperform natural stone

Ceramic — often called sintered stone — is a relatively new arrival in the worktop world, but it's quickly become the go-to for contemporary kitchens and outdoor spaces. Made by pressing a blend of natural clay, quartz and feldspar under enormous heat and pressure, the finished material is denser, harder and more resistant than virtually anything else you can put on a worktop.

It's also available in formats you simply can't achieve with natural stone — ultra-thin 6mm and 8mm slabs for sleek minimalist kitchens, large-format sheets for seamless splashbacks and feature walls, and full UV stability for outdoor BBQ islands. The trade-off is that fabrication requires specialist equipment and a steady hand, which is where our twenty years of stone experience earns its keep.

Three Popular Styles

From industrial concrete to dramatic marble

Modern ceramic manufacturing can replicate almost any surface finish — stone, concrete, metal, even timber. These are the looks we see most often in North East kitchens.

Look 01

Marble-Effect

The dramatic veining of Calacatta or Statuario, but with far greater durability and no sensitivity to acids. Perfect for statement islands and full-height splashbacks in contemporary kitchens.

Look 02

Concrete & Industrial

Raw, honest surfaces in soft greys and muted tones — the signature look of high-end modern kitchens. Works beautifully with handleless cabinetry and minimalist schemes.

Look 03

Solid & Bold

Deep blacks, crisp whites, warm neutrals. A clean, contemporary surface that lets the kitchen design take centre stage — particularly popular in 6mm and 8mm formats.

Versatile Application

The only material that works anywhere

Ceramic's combination of UV stability, heat resistance and chemical resistance makes it the go-to choice for challenging applications.

Kitchen

Worktops, islands and full-height splashbacks.

Outdoor

BBQ islands, garden bars, outdoor kitchens.

Media Walls

Feature cladding in living spaces and hallways.

Tables

Dining and coffee tables with dramatic presence.

Common Questions

Ceramic worktop FAQs

What customers ask most often about sintered stone worktops.

What exactly is a ceramic worktop?

Ceramic — also called sintered stone — is a modern surface material made by pressing natural minerals and clays under extreme heat and pressure. The process produces an exceptionally hard, dense, non-porous surface that outperforms natural stone on almost every metric: heat, scratch, stain, UV and chemical resistance.

Can I put hot pans directly on a ceramic worktop?

Yes. Ceramic is manufactured at temperatures well above anything a kitchen can produce, so direct heat from pans, oven trays or even small appliances won't damage it. It's one of very few worktop materials that genuinely doesn't need a trivet.

What thicknesses do ceramic worktops come in?

Depending on the brand, we supply ceramic in 6mm, 8mm, 12mm and 20mm thicknesses. The thinner options (6–12mm) are ideal for sleek modern kitchens and cladding applications, while 20mm gives a more substantial worktop profile.

Can ceramic be used outdoors?

Yes — sintered ceramic is UV-stable and fully frost-resistant, making it one of the best materials for outdoor kitchens, BBQ islands and garden bars. Unlike quartz, it won't yellow or fade in direct sunlight.

Is ceramic better than quartz?

It depends on priorities. Ceramic is tougher and more heat-resistant, and can be used outdoors. Quartz has a wider range of colours, is typically less expensive, and is slightly easier to fabricate. For most kitchens either works beautifully — we'll talk you through which suits your specific project.

What brands of ceramic do you supply?

We work with the leading sintered stone brands including Dekton by Cosentino, Techlam by Levantina, Uniceramica by Brachot, and Caesarstone Porcelain. Each has its own aesthetic strengths and thickness range.
