Why Granite

Granite worktops Newcastle homeowners keep coming back to

There is a reason granite has sat at the top of the kitchen worktop category for decades. It is not fashion. It is not marketing. It is the simple fact that once you fit granite, you do not need to think about your worktops again. Ever.

We have been supplying and fitting granite worktops across Newcastle since 2004, from terraced houses in Heaton to new builds in Ponteland and period properties in Jesmond. The process is the same every time: digital templating on site, fabrication in our North Shields workshop and installation by our own team. No subcontractors. No surprises.

This guide covers why granite remains a top choice, what the different finishes look like, which granites Newcastle customers reach for most often and how our process works from first enquiry to fitted worktops.

The Case For Granite

Why granite worktops hold their own in 2026

Outstanding Heat Tolerance

The best performer in the kitchen for direct heat. A pan straight off the hob is no problem for granite, which sets it apart from quartz and most other surfaces.

No Two Slabs Are the Same

Every granite slab comes from nature, so the movement, mineral flecks and tonal variation in your worktop will not appear anywhere else. You are not choosing from a catalogue, you are choosing a one-off.

Decades of Durability

Granite worktops routinely outlast the kitchen units they sit on. Properly sealed and sensibly used, you are looking at thirty to forty years from a quality granite installation.

Scratch and Impact Resistant

One of the hardest materials used in the home. Granite resists scratches, chips and everyday impact better than most alternatives. It is built for real kitchen use.

Granite is not a luxury upgrade. For homeowners who cook properly, it is the most practical surface in the kitchen.

Finishes and Options

Polished, honed or leathered: which granite finish is right?

The finish changes the look of granite significantly, and it is one of the first decisions we work through with Newcastle clients in the showroom.

  • Polished. The classic high sheen that most people picture when they think of granite worktops. Reflective, dramatic and easy to wipe clean. Best in kitchens where the stone is meant to be the centrepiece.
  • Honed. A matte or satin surface with a softer, more contemporary look. Less reflective than polished, which suits understated modern kitchens. Slightly more susceptible to marking so sealing matters.
  • Leathered. A brushed, textured surface that sits between polished and honed in character. Excellent at hiding fingerprints and water marks, and adds tactile depth. A popular choice for darker granites.

Not sure which to choose? Come in and put your hand on all three. The tactile difference is something photographs cannot convey.

Popular Choices

Granites Newcastle homeowners choose most often

We stock and source a wide range, but these are the slabs that Newcastle clients reach for consistently, based on what we have fitted across the city over the past few years.

Current favourites in the North East

  • Cosmic Black. A deep, near-black granite with subtle gold and silver mineral flecks. Dramatic in contemporary kitchens and stunning as a dining table base.
  • Picasso White. A bright white background with dramatic dark grey veining. Popular in open-plan kitchens where clients want natural stone without warmth.
  • Fantasy Brown. A soft taupe and cream granite with flowing movement. Works beautifully in traditional shaker-style kitchens across North Tyneside.
  • Jet Black. A uniform, deep black with minimal movement. Clean, architectural and very popular in modern extensions across Newcastle.
  • Titanium Gold. A warm gold and bronze granite with rich mineral depth. A striking choice for traditional kitchens in period properties.

We hold samples of all these in the showroom and can arrange to view full slabs for statement projects. Contact us to discuss availability and lead times.

Your Questions

Granite worktops in Newcastle: your questions answered

Do you supply granite worktops to Newcastle customers?

Yes. We supply and install granite worktops across all parts of Newcastle, including Jesmond, Gosforth, Heaton, Ponteland and the city centre. We are based in North Shields, a short drive from the city, and all templating, fabrication and fitting is done by our own team.

What granite finishes do you offer?

We offer polished, honed and leathered finishes depending on the granite and the project. Polished is the most popular and gives the classic high sheen. Honed is matte and slightly softer looking. Leathered adds subtle texture and hides fingerprints well. We can show you samples of all three in the showroom.

Does granite need sealing?

Granite is a natural stone with a slightly porous surface, so it benefits from periodic sealing to protect against staining. We seal all granite worktops on installation day, and re-sealing every two to three years keeps the surface performing well. It is a straightforward job that takes minutes.

Can granite worktops be fitted around an existing kitchen?

Yes. We template precisely to your existing units, including any awkward angles, alcoves, Belfast sink cut outs or hob positions. Digital templating means everything is measured to the millimetre before a single cut is made.

How long do granite worktops last?

Granite is one of the hardest natural materials used in kitchens and, properly cared for, will outlast the kitchen units it sits on. With occasional sealing and sensible use, granite worktops routinely last 30 to 40 years or more. They are a long-term investment, not a cosmetic upgrade.
