No. Quartz is non-porous by nature of the manufacturing process, so it doesn't need sealing — ever. That's one of its biggest advantages over natural stone. Just wipe it with warm water and a gentle cleaner to keep it looking pristine.
Quartz is heat-resistant but not heat-proof. It can handle warm dishes without issue, but sudden exposure to very hot pans straight from the hob or oven can cause thermal shock in some cases. We always recommend using a trivet for peace of mind. See our aftercare guide for more.
Yes — highly so. Because quartz is non-porous, liquids can't soak in. Red wine, coffee, turmeric, tomato sauce — all wipe off without staining, making quartz one of the most forgiving worktop materials available.
Quartz is available in 20mm and 30mm thicknesses. 30mm gives a substantial, traditional look, while 20mm suits contemporary kitchens — and can be built up with a mitred edge for the appearance of a thicker slab at less cost.
Generally no — quartz contains resin binders which can yellow or degrade over time when exposed to direct sunlight. For outdoor kitchens and BBQ islands, we'd recommend granite or sintered ceramic, both of which are fully UV-stable.
